Award Winning Swiss Alpine Hotel

The Grand Hotel Belvedere, a prestigious 5-star retreat in the Swiss Alps, was undergoing a major renovation and needed premium background audio throughout its communal and leisure areas. The goal was clear: deliver exceptional sound quality that complemented the elegance of the interiors without disrupting the building’s listed architecture.

The Challenge

This project was anything but straightforward. The hotel’s historic features meant we couldn’t alter ceilings or walls in many spaces, and the remote mountain location added logistical complexity. On top of that, navigating a language barrier with the interior designers made the specifications even more intricate, but our team loves a challenge.

Our Approach

Every space required a bespoke solution to balance performance, aesthetics, and preservation.

Main Restaurant: With listed ceilings and walls off-limits, we got creative by installing Sonance Mariner speakers discreetly within radiator covers to deliver even coverage. To then enhance sound in the centre of the room, we mounted ceiling speakers upside down within the central servery joinery, reflecting audio seamlessly across the space.

Bar Area: The design brief called for “party-quality” sound with no visible equipment. We achieved this by recessing K-Array Vyper line-array speakers into mirror frames and hiding subwoofers beneath seating and the bar resulting in seamlessly integrated sound that is almost invisible.

Lobby & Other Listed Areas: We chose Artcoustic CPH-5 speakers for their rich sound and retro aesthetic, perfectly suiting the hotel’s traditional design. In less restricted areas, we used K-Gear and Sonance slim-line speakers where space was tight.

System control is handled via RTI matrix amplifiers and bespoke touchscreen interfaces, giving staff simple, intuitive control throughout the hotel.

The Result

The project was completed on schedule despite complex logistics including multiple road trips from our UK base in Preston to Wengen, with all equipment carefully transported and installed by our team.

The outcome is a seamless, high-performance audio system that blends effortlessly into the Grand Hotel Belvedere’s stunning interiors. It delivers exceptional clarity and coverage, enhancing the guest experience in every area of the hotel, all while preserving its architectural heritage.

It was also awarded as the ‘Best Commercial Integration Project’ at the Smart Buildings Awards in 2025.
