One house, one system, one phone number afterwards.
Every part of this property’s technology came to us: lighting control, heating, irrigation, smart blinds, audio visual, networking and Wi-Fi. One house, one contractor, one system that had to behave as a whole rather than as seven that happen to share a building.
Lighting and heating run on KNX. In the large open-plan kitchen and living area that removed the bank of wall switches entirely: Ekinex 20Venti keypads dim precisely and recall scenes at one press, and because they sense temperature themselves, there are no thermostats on the walls either. The same bus goes on to handle underfloor heating, air conditioning and the garden irrigation, with Control4 over the top as the single interface.
The large apex windows were the awkward part. Sona blinds were introduced to fit the angled apex, opening out like a fan and meeting Lutron roller blinds below, so the whole elevation shades as one piece rather than as two systems bolted together.
Six zones of Sonos through the house, and two rooms treated properly: a colour-matched 2.1 Artcoustic system in the kitchen and family room, and a 7.2 Artcoustic system in the living room.
An intelligent house where the systems answer to each other rather than to seven different apps, and where the technology is felt rather than seen.
