Trinnov processing, and rooms measured before they are tuned

The French processor that most reference cinemas are built around. Optimizer, 3D Remapping and WaveForming, calibrated in your room with a tetrahedral microphone rather than a factory preset.

01 The partnership

Certification exists because the tool is sharp.

A Trinnov does not correct a room; it corrects a loudspeaker in a room, and only from good measurements. Mic positions, target curves and how much correction to apply are judgement calls, and overdoing it is the commonest way to make a well-built cinema sound wrong.

  • Certified calibration, using the four-element 3D microphone as designed.
  • Measurements taken at every seat, not just the middle one.
  • The measurement set and target curves documented and left on site.
  • Room built and treated first. Processing is the last ten per cent, not the first.

The order matters more than the hardware. Get the room, the speaker positions and the treatment right, and the Trinnov finishes the job. Reverse that order and no processor will save it.

03 The brand

A measurement company that happens to make processors.

Trinnov was founded in Paris in 2003 out of research into spatial audio, and it holds more than fifty patents. Its reputation rests on the Optimizer, which measures loudspeaker and room behaviour together, and on the tetrahedral microphone that captures azimuth, elevation and distance rather than just level.

The Altitude range now covers everything from a compact media room to a DCI-grade theatre: Altitude 16 and 32 for analogue-first systems, and AltitudeCI with Dante audio over IP for network-based integration. All of them share the same processing and the same free software updates.

04 The range

The processors we specify.

The choice is driven by channel count and how the system is wired, not by which one sounds better. They all sound the same.

FamilyWhat it isWhere we use it
Altitude 16
Up to twenty discrete channels, analogue-first, with HDMI 2.1. The right processor for a well-disciplined room.
Media rooms · Cinemas
Altitude 32
Thirty-two channels scaling to sixty-four outputs, with advanced bass management. The choice once subwoofer arrays enter the plan.
Reference cinemas
AltitudeCI 16 / 20
Network-first with Dante and AES67 built in, for layouts like 9.4.6 or 11.4.4 in small to medium rooms.
Small to medium rooms
AltitudeCI 32
The top of the CI platform, for high-channel-count systems in reference-level private cinemas and post-production.
Estate cinemas
Amplitude 16
Trinnov amplification designed against its own processing, where a matched front end and back end is wanted.

Calibration package
Not a product, but the part that matters. Measurement at every seat, target curves agreed, documentation left behind.

05 How we specify it

What drives the specification.

Channel count decides the processor. The room decides the channel count. We work in that order and it saves money.

Driver 01

Channel count, honestly counted

Count front wides, height layers, subwoofer arrays and any active crossover work before choosing. Most people who buy an Altitude 16 and later want an Altitude 32 undercounted at the start.

Driver 02

Whether WaveForming is on the plan

WaveForming needs subwoofers in defined positions, front and rear, and rules out nearfield and mid-room subs. It also changes the channel count. Decide early or not at all.

Driver 03

Analogue or audio over IP

Altitude 16 and 32 keep you free to choose any power amplifier. AltitudeCI puts Dante at the centre and scales further. It is an integration decision, not a sound quality one.

Indicative only. A design visit produces a fixed price.

08 Common questions

Trinnov, honestly answered.

Count your channels properly first, including height layers, front wides and subwoofer arrays. If the honest number is close to twenty, go to the 32. Most people who buy the 16 and regret it undercounted at the start.

It will fix a loudspeaker in a room. It will not fix a room with parallel hard walls, a bad seating position or no treatment. Spend on the room first and the processor last, in that order.

Using front and rear subwoofers to cancel bass room modes in the time domain rather than equalising them away. The result is tighter bass and much more consistent seat to seat. It requires specific subwoofer positions.

No. Altitude 16 and 32 are analogue-first precisely so you can use almost any power amplifier. We specify Trinnov amplification where a matched front and back end suits the rack, not as a rule.

Less than most things in a rack. Trinnov has a long record of adding features to existing hardware through free software updates rather than requiring a new box.

We do, in your room, with the 3D microphone at every seat. The measurement set and agreed target curves are documented and left with you, so any future work has a reference.
