Cumbrian houses are the hardest walls we work with. Thick stone, slate floors, no cavity and no loft void in a converted barn. Add the National Park and a listing on top and an external speaker or a dish becomes a planning conversation before it is a technical one. We plan for that from the first visit rather than discovering it at first fix.
Connectivity is the other half. Fibre reaches the towns, but a house up a valley is often on a long copper run or a fixed wireless link. We design networks that assume the line will drop: 4G or Starlink failover, local recording for cameras, and control that keeps working when the internet does not.
A good share of the work here is holiday lets and small hotels, where the system has to survive guests. That means keypads rather than apps, one obvious way to turn the television on, and remote monitoring so a changeover day never starts with a phone call about the heating.
