01 The city and the coast

Tall Victorian rooms, and sand blowing in off the coast.

South Liverpool — Woolton, Allerton, Aigburth — is full of large Victorian and Edwardian houses with high ceilings, deep cornices and rooms that sound live before anything is done to them. Audio here is as much about absorption as it is about speakers, and cinema rooms usually go into a basement or a converted garage rather than a top floor.

Formby, Crosby and the Wirral coast bring salt and sand. External kit needs marine-grade specification, cameras want housings that survive winter, and garden rooms need the same humidity thinking as a pool house. It is the same discipline as our Lytham work, applied on the other side of the estuary.

Private bars, snugs and basement rooms are the recurring brief here more than anywhere else we work — a room that does Sunday afternoon and midnight equally well, on one button each. It is our favourite kind of job.

TYPICAL HERE

Victorian and Edwardian houses in Woolton, Allerton and Aigburth, coastal properties in Formby and Crosby, and Wirral houses around Heswall and Caldy.

WHAT IT ASKS FOR

Acoustic treatment in tall live rooms, marine-grade kit near the coast, and basements dealt with for damp before anything is fitted.

05 Why local matters

The difference is what happens in year three.

01

One team, one number

The people who design it install it and look after it. No handover to a call centre and no subcontractors.

02

Rooms treated properly

We measure and treat live rooms rather than throwing equipment at them, which is what tall Victorian houses actually need.

03

Aftercare that reaches you

Most faults are fixed remotely. When a visit is needed it is next working day, and spares sit in the workshop rather than on order.

04

Accredited, and checkable

Trained and certified on Control4, KNX, Lutron and Trinnov. Named Best Commercial Integration Project at the 2025 Smart Buildings Awards.

06 Questions

Asked here most.

If yours is not here, ring the workshop. We would rather answer it properly than have you guess.

Yes, but the room comes first. Tall Victorian rooms with hard floors and plaster cornices are live, and no amount of expensive equipment fixes that. Rugs, curtains, soft furnishing and a small amount of targeted treatment do most of the work, and then we calibrate to the room rather than to a spec sheet.

Only once the basement is dry. We will not fit into a room with an active damp issue — it ruins equipment and it ruins the finish. Get it tanked and ventilated properly, then it is one of the best cinema spaces you can have, because there is no daylight to fight.

Regularly. It is about an hour and there is no charge for the first visit. Support is next working day, and most issues get sorted remotely because programming stays with us.
